Lauren Crabb - Preface

I grew up in the small town of Sandersville, Georgia, a very traditional, conservative, Bible Belt town. Everyone lived by the 4 F's - Faith, Family, Friends, and Football. I went to a small school where my everyone in my Pre-K class was also in my graduating class. While I loved everyone in my small town, I never really loved living in a small town. Ever since I was a child, my dad would bring me to a place where he had once called home. He went to college here, and he would often bring my mom, sister, and me back to this town so that we could experience it as well. We went to all of the football games in the fall and all of the gymnastics meets in the winter. This town, Athens, had always felt like a second home to me, and I would always look forward to our visits. It was a nice escape from my small town. When my older sister decided to go to college in Athens, no one was surprised. Our visits became more and more frequent, and I began to picture myself going to school in Athens more clearly. When it came time for me to pick a college, the comfort I felt in Athens quickly became a fear. Was I going to overlook all other colleges because of my love of Athens? I was so worried that I would be blinded by my love for the University of Georgia that I would miss out on the right college for me. I visited several colleges, yet I found myself constantly comparing all of them to Athens. I finally decided that Athens was the right place for me all along.
